Antenatal hydronephrosis in a 3-month-old boy
History
3-month-old boy with left hydronephrosis first seen at the 20-week anomaly scan. Postnatal ultrasound: left renal pelvis anteroposterior diameter 24 mm with calyceal dilatation, normal-calibre ureter, normal bladder and right kidney. Micturating cystourethrogram: no reflux. He is thriving and has had no urinary infections. Request: diuretic renogram — is the left kidney obstructed, and how much does it contribute?
Step 1 · First diuretic renogram
Uptake is prompt in both kidneys and left differential function is 47%. The dilated left pelvis shows little washout after furosemide at 20 min but partly empties on the upright post-void image. How should this study be reported?
