Incidental 3-cm kidney mass in a 63-year-old man
History
63-year-old man with a 3.1 cm solid, enhancing, fat-free mass arising from the anterolateral left kidney, found on CT for diverticulitis. Normal creatinine. Severe ischaemic heart disease, so the urologist would rather avoid surgery if the lesion is likely indolent. Request: ⁹⁹ᵐTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT to characterise the mass.

On the fused SPECT/CT the left renal mass takes up sestamibi about as intensely as the normal cortex of the same kidney on the same slice. How should the mass be described?
